Pick up at hotel and proceed for the Kuching City Tour. Kuching, the capital of Sarawak, Malaysia's largest state, is simply unique. The city warmly welcomes visitors but it does not put on an act for them; it simply goes about its own business in a relaxed manner which hasn't changed in 150 years. Kuching city is an ideal base from which to go exploring.
The tour will take you to the Civic Center for a birds-eye view of Kuching. You will also see other places of interest including the famous city landmark, the Cat Monument, the Kuching Market, the 'Main Bazaar', China Town, the old state mosque and Tua Pek Kong Temple. Visit Kuching's most popular meeting spot - the Waterfront. As you pass through the city, you will witness the Astana, the imposing palace on the north bank of the river opposite the Waterfront, was built in 1870 by Charles Brooke as a bridal gift to his wife Margaret. Today, it is the official residence of the Head of State of Sarawak. At the Kuching Waterfront, you can see the old colonial Court House with the Clock Tower and a granite obelisk built in memory of the second White Rajah - Charles Brooke.Later visit the renown Sarawak Museum, visit the lush tropical Botanical Gardens and see the Hero's Memorial, built to commemorate the dead of World War II, the Communist Insurgency and the confrontation with Indonesia.
Last stop - shopping. Kuching is the best place to pick up bargain souvenirs including wood carvings with the 'Pua Kumba' native design, native ikat textiles and sarongs. You can also buy 'Bird's Nest', a desert which is renown for it's medicinal qualities and harvested from neigbouring caves around Kuching, it's renown worldwide, for it's superior quality.
